Dr. José R. Irizarry serves as Director of Cambridge College, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Prior to his appointment to this position in 2011, he served as Academic Dean and held the Limardo Chair in Practical Theology at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico, and served as professor of Educational Ministries and academic administrator at McCormick Theological Seminary and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, as well as the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. An ordained Minister of the Presbyterian Church USA, he holds degrees from the University of Puerto Rico, The Universita per Stranieri in Perugia, Italy, McCormick Theological Seminary and Northwestern University. As a scholar in the field of religious education and intercultural relations, he has traveled internationally to lead seminars, conferences and research. In 2007 he was elected President of the Religious Education Association in the United States and Canada. Irizarry served on the Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (Westminster John Knox Press, Geneva Press) for eight years, and has served on the Editorial Board of five ecumenical journals. His major interests are international and intercultural relations, justice theory, critical pedagogy and aesthetics. Irizarry lives in San Juan Puerto Rico with his wife Mildred and his three children Yuyza (12), Darién (10) and Abayomi (6).
